What Is Often Included In Luxury Bedding Sets Examined And Described
Buying luxury bedding without having any idea of what's contained in luxury bedding sets can cost you to waste a lot of money. It doesn't help that those who make luxury bed linens act like everyone knows exactly what they're talking about when they toss these terms on a label. So, let's get everyone on the same page. Here is a fast summary of the luxury bedding terms that you are most likely to find and be confused about when buying for the first time.
Luxury Bed Sheets
All bedding sets are going to come with some sort of bed sheets. Luxury bedding sets are certainly not the exception, and generally will come with a nice fitted sheet at the very least. Besides that, it will largely depend on what the remainder of the set consists of. Some will have luxury bed sheets, while others will contain a duvet, which replaces comforter and sheets both in most sets. Be sure to make no assumptions about discount luxury bedding sets that you may consider. Having no sheets, but a duvet instead, is fairly normal, but having neither sheets nor duvet but just a comforter is a waste of money.
The Duvet
The duvet, a common luxury bed linen, is a term that's thrown around a lot without an equal amount of explanation. Suffice to say, in modern luxury bed sets, that the duvet is meant to be the luxury bedding alternative to both a comforter and sheets. This is one of the many reasons why the number of "pieces" in a luxury bedding sets isn't terribly important. Be sure to pay attention to the actual contents. A duvet will generally take up only as much space as a comforter, so expect luxury bedding sets with duvets to be a bit smaller and lighter than others. Unless, of course, there are more extras.
Pillow Cases
When it comes to pillow cases, luxury bedding sets can vary a lot. They'll also call them different things, like shams. Shams, pillow cases, and pillow covers, though, are all the same thing. Usually the size of the bed that the luxury bed linens are meant to fit will dictate how many pillow covers you get. Many sets also include covers for throw pillows or neck pillows, sometimes in seemingly random amounts. If you have extra cushions, be prepared to buy covers separately, as it's awfully hard to find a luxury bedding set that includes exactly what you need, and nothing more.
Arbitrary Extras
Unlike most regular bedding sets, luxury bedding ensembles typically come with a matching bed skirt. An exception is that, sometimes, luxury bedding sets that have duvets won't include one. Since duvets are intended to have a cover, those who make luxury bedding figure that you'll buy a matching bed skirt and duvet cover. There is also the rare luxury bedding set which includes both a duvet cover and skirt. This is becoming more and more common with discount luxury bedding sets. Those more expensive sets are built under the assumption that you're buying their luxurious bedding, and someone else's skirt and duvet cover that will match the room's decor.
